Is Kratom Legal In Idaho?

Kratom in Idaho appears to have been largely ignored by politicians from either side of the aisle. However, there’s been a shift since summer 2019 when there were several negative events that looked to be associated with the plant. One of the most notable associations was the death of a 22-year old man in Bannock County.

After this occurred, the county coroner spoke out about the botanical. His rational and insightful comments were eye-opening. He fully admitted that it was the altered form of kratom that seems to be the problem. Like many people, he wants kratom to be regulated as opposed to banned. That seems to be the consensus in this state, though it’s worth diving in to find out where these attitudes are coming from.

If you’re interested in learning more about Idaho kratom legality, you’ve found the best source. In this article, we’ll tell you more about how it’s been received, whether you can purchase kratom in Idaho, and what the future will likely hold.

Classification of Kratom in Idaho

Kratom is currently unclassified, meaning Idaho kratom laws allow citizens to own, sell, and distribute within the state. If there is any suspected abuse of kratom, Idaho law enforcers are likely to handle it on an individual basis.

If you’re searching for kratom powder Idaho, you should know that merchants are largely unregulated in your state. This means that if they alter the plant in any way, there’s no oversight to stop them. Merchants may also sell fake leaves or powder to consumers, which is discouraging on both a financial and user morale level.

Consumers may have a difficult time proving fraud, depending on the circumstances. Buyers are encouraged to research the companies they purchase from before selecting items. As such, look for analysis like that we provide regarding kratom products and their composition.

Current Idaho Kratom Legislation

If you’re asking yourself ‘Is kratom illegal?’, in Idaho you don’t currently have to worry. There’s no active legislation of kratom in the state, though there has been some attempt to regulate kratom in the state.

Currently, the Kratom Consumer Protection Act is under review. This act would restrict the sale of kratom to minors, define the amount of ingredients in the product, and provide clear directions for use. Merchants would need to list all ingredients, provide warning statements for the consumer, and include the name and address of the manufacturer.

These laws are a reasonable attempt to both appease lawmakers and limit potential accidents or injuries in the state. It doesn’t necessarily address every concern, but it’s a strong step in the right direction.

Kratom laws in Idaho do not exclude any city or district. You are free to use it wherever you are in the state, though it may not always be easy to find in your particular neck of the woods. While Idaho does have kratom on its radar more so than many other states, this is a relative statement. Many business owners may not have even heard of the botanical, so you may need to do some work if you want to find a supplier near you.

Buying and Shipping Kratom in Idaho

It’s relatively easy to find kratom online, especially considering that it’s legal at both the national level and in the vast majority of states. Shipping organizations such as FedEx, UPS, and USPS are obligated to follow the national law, meaning they’re not technically allowed to stop a shipment on its way to Idaho.

There have been some reports though of buyers having their packages delayed on the way to their home. These stories are few and far between, but they are worth knowing about if you’re buying kratom in Idaho. If your package happens to make a stop in a state where kratom is banned, it may be stopped by an employee who doesn’t know that the national law does not prohibit kratom use.

Botanical Advocacy in Idaho

The American Kratom Association (AKA) is one of the biggest advocates for kratom in not just in Idaho but the entire U.S.. This group keeps up on past, current, and pending legislation. The organizers are here to dispel myths about kratom and promote healthy use of the plant. This group has been highly encouraged that Idaho might pass the protection act. These reasonable restrictions are the first step toward regulating kratom in an effort to legitimize it.

There has been plenty of fear regarding kratom for several years now, ever since the DEA put it on its radar. However, these concerns are largely unrelated to the natural plant. It’s the adulteration of kratom that is believed to be the cause of problems, and the AKA wants people to know it. This group sends people to different places all over the country to keep kratom legal while advocating for laws that keep consumers safe.

Relevant Statistics in Idaho

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has remained largely silent on kratom, though they have stated that kratom is similar to opioids when it comes to the effects on the human body. Despite its similarities, it has not caused the wake of devastation that opioid abuse has.

In Idaho, 14.4 people of every 100,000 died of a drug-related overdose in 2017. This age-adjusted data does not specifically include opioid statistics, though these were thought  to be the predominant cause of death in the state. This rate has largely stayed the same over the past few years.

The rate of deaths in the state may have something to do with the relatively high number of opioid prescriptions in Idaho. While the national average is 58.7 per 100 people, the national average in the state was over 70 per 100 people.
