Kratom Laws in North Dakota

As long as time has been recorded on the planet, society has always incorporated products from plants as part of their daily routine. This is even more true when it comes to what has been used for health and well-being. To that end, there have been a few natural products that fall into this category that have undergone quite a bit of scrutiny from the authorities and still do today. One of these happens to be kratom.

Kratom is created from a tropical tree in the coffee family that is predominately found in Southeast Asia, mainly in the nation of Thailand.
Healers there used kratom that is created from the leaves to aid others in pain relief amongst other issues. Westerners first became aware of its use in the middle of the 19th Century, but it didn’t gain elevated recognition until 2010 in the European Union and the United States.

With the latter, as more were drawn to kratom the federal authoritative bodies became concerned with the possibility of rampant usage. This concern was bolstered in 2014 as a rash of incidents involving kratom users in the States became publicized. Despite an initial attempt by the Drug Enforcement Agency in 2016 to classify kratom as a Schedule I substance which would ban it for use, they backed off due to members of Congress asking for more research to be conducted as as a response to entreaties from those using kratom.

In turn, each state began to examine the presence of kratom and worked to figure out the best way to deal with it.

Kratom’s Presence In North Dakota

For those residing in North Dakota, kratom became known due to its prevalence on the web through different online retail outlets. Those who initially purchased it claimed a positive impact on wellness, particularly when it came to alleviating discomfort that they had incurred after surgical procedures or accidents. There were also claims that it was conducive to aiding efforts at beating addiction to opioid medications that were prescribed as a part of "modern" medicine.

As word of user satisfaction spread, others wanted to try the natural botanical product out themselves. This demand led to kratom being available in brick-and-mortar locations such as specialty stores with a focus on herbal and natural products. Local authorities did take into account the concerns that the federal government had regarding kratom, especially as there were a rash of incidents that took place nationwide beginning in 2014 where adverse effects and reactions were reported. A more recent situation involved certain kratom products being tainted with salmonella in 2018, with one case happening in
North Dakota.

As a result, attention to the quality and contents of the kratom that was on the market in North Dakota was enhanced.

Kratom Legality In North Dakota

Currently, kratom is legal to possess, purchase and distribute in the state of North Dakota. More residents have spoken to the benefits that they have received from using kratom, but it hasn’t convinced state medical officials who have issued their own statements that warn against using it in 2018 in the wake of warnings from the Food & Drug Administration.

There is no public plan by the state government in regards to any laws on possible kratom regulation at this time.
